Baking bread you can brush a little vinegar on the top just before baking and it will help keep the crust a bit softer.

Recipe
Almond cookies
2 3/4 cups Sifted flour ;
Almond cookies
2 3/4 cups Sifted flour ;
1 cup Sugar
1/2 ts Soda
1/2 ts Salt
1 cup Butter
1 Slightly beaten egg
1 ts Almond extract
1/3 cup Whole almonds
Sift flour sugar soda and salt together into bowl. Cut in butter till mix resembles cornmeal. Add egg and almond extract; mix well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on un-greased cookie sheet. Place an almond atop each cookie and press down to flatten slightly. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool on rack. Makes 4 1/2 dozen
