A Place to set your prayers

70 year-old Buddhist monk Hua Chi has been praying in the same spot at his temple in Tongren, China for over 20 years. His footprints, which are up to 1.2 inches deep in some areas, are the result of performing his prayers up to 3000 times a day. Now that he is 70, he says that he has greatly reduced his quantity of prayers to 1,000 times each day.

Tip
Coffee Grounds
dry them out on a cookie sheet and then put them in a bowl in your refrigerator or freezer, or
rub them on your hands to get rid of food prep smells

Recipe
Coffee Spiced Nuts
2C mix nuts
1Tbsp sugar
1/2 cup maple syrup or honey
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp dark roast, ground coffee grounds
Heat oven to 350°F. Stir together nuts with honey or maple syrup, spices and coffee, tossing to coat well. Spread the coated nuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15 minutes (be sure to spread out as much as possible so they don’t stick together too much). After 15 minutes, sprinkle the sugar over the nuts and give them a stir. Return the nuts to the oven for about 5 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool on baking tray. When nuts are cool, break them apart if needed and serve. Can be made a week in advance and stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
