Fact

Groucho Marx was legendary for his wit.

Like other famous actors, Groucho listed different years for his birth at different times of his life. We are certain he was born in Manhattan on this day, but we are not sure if it was 1890, 1891, 1889, or - never mind; however most sources say he was born in 1890. It was Groucho who said once that he would never join any club that would accept him as a member.

Recipe

Pumpkin bars

Yields 12 pieces. 3/4 cup flour3/4 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon baking soda1/2 teaspoon nutmeg1/2 teaspoon cinnamon2 eggs1 cup brown sugar2/3 cup canned pumpkin 1/4 cup cooking oil1/2 cup nuts

In a bowl beat eggs and sugar. Add oil and mix until combined. Then add the dry sifted ingredients together with the pumpkin and nuts. Pour in 13x9 greased baking panBake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool 5 minutes. Remove from pan and frost, if desired. Cut into 2" x 4" squares.in bars
